Talent Wars Podcast: Why Communities Should Treat College Career Centers Like VIPs green graphic

On this episode of the Talent Wars Podcast, Host Patience Fairbrother sits down with Tiffany Tate, Talent & Strategic Projects Manager at the Upstate SC Alliance, to discuss why talent programs should engage with college and university career offices – and specifically why they should treat them like VIPs.

The episode features a case study from Upstate South Carolina. The Upstate SC Alliance, the organization behind the MoveUpstateSC talent campaign, spearheaded an initiative that is likely a first of its kind – a familiarization tour for college and university career office professionals. In many ways, career offices are like the site selectors of the talent world. These professionals impact the post-grad career decisions or hundreds or sometimes thousands of students. For the Upstate SC Alliance, it was a no-brainer to invest in rolling out the red carpet for this key audience, just like they do for site selectors on the economic development side. Tune in for insights on:

  • The “multiplier effect” of working with college and university career offices
  • How this engagement helps with both attraction and retention
  • Connecting regional employers with colleges and universities
  • How the initiative was funded
  • Measuring success
  • Advice for other “pilot” talent attraction and retention initiatives
